Rules & Guidelines
At Attitude BJJ Academy, our rules ensure a safe, respectful, and positive environment, helping every member train confidently and reach their full potential on the mats.

Respect for All
-
Show respect to instructors, training partners, and fellow members at all times.
-
Always practice good sportsmanship—win or lose, we learn and grow together.
-
Leave your ego outside and come in with a mindset to learn.

Hygiene and Cleanliness
-
Keep clean: Ensure your gi, rash guards, and training attire are washed and fresh for each class.
-
Remember to bring your own drink bottle & towel to class.
-
Trim nails and avoid wearing jewelry to reduce risk of injury.
-
Cover any cuts or abrasions and stay off the mats if you’re sick.

Punctuality and Attendance
-
Arrive on time to classes. If you’re running late, wait quietly on the side until welcomed onto the mats.
-
Let the instructor know beforehand if possible.
-
Notify us if you can’t make it to class, especially for scheduled sessions like private lessons.

Proper Training Etiquette
-
No unsupervised sparring—only train under instructor supervision.
-
Tap early, tap often: Safety first. If you feel uncomfortable or in pain, tap out.
-
Be mindful of your strength and technique to ensure safe, controlled training.
Open Mat Sessions
-
Open mats are for training, rolling, and reviewing techniques. Respect others’ space, and keep a positive attitude even in competitive rolls.
-
During open mat, avoid teaching new techniques to other members. Leave instruction to qualified instructors.
Gi and No-Gi Gear Requirements
-
Wear appropriate attire for each class—a gi for gi classes and rash guards and shorts for no-gi.
-
Maintain your belt rank attire to show respect for the progression system.
-
Traditionally, belts are not washed; instead, dry them in the sun.
Personal Conduct and Discipline
-
No foul language or aggressive behavior; maintain a supportive and positive atmosphere.
-
Respect the instructor's authority and instructions during class.
-
If you have a concern or issue, speak to Luiz or an instructor privately after class.
Equipment and Facility Use
-
Treat all mats, gear, and equipment respectfully. Clean up after yourself and return borrowed equipment.
-
Shoes are strictly prohibited on the mats—use only clean feet or mat-appropriate socks.
Injury Prevention and Safety
-
Inform your instructor of any injuries before class begins to avoid exacerbating them.
-
Practice control with techniques to prevent injuries to yourself and your partner.
Commitment to Learning
-
Keep a growth mindset—progress takes time, and consistent effort is key.
-
Be open to constructive feedback from instructors and teammates, helping everyone grow together.
